Psychologists at the University of Pennsylvania studied data from over 10,000 speed daters and found that most people make a decision regarding attraction within three seconds of meeting another person. Nearly 70% of people believe in love at first sight.
Therefore, if your expectation of every date is to find the love of your life, then the odds are overwhelming that you’ll be disappointed within minutes of meeting your date.
Do you really want to spend the remainder of your date with this person being in a state of disappointment? The primary reason for dating should be to have a good time.
Research also shows that men know they’re falling in love after just three dates, but women don’t usually fall in love until their fourteenth date. Other studies indicate that a woman dates twenty-four men before finding “the one.” And the average person will go out on at least 100 dates with “the one” before they finally marry.
As a female friend of mine recently said, “It’s a couple’s world out there. Some events are better spent in the company of someone of the opposite sex.” It all begins with a date.
Remember, you’re not trying to get a relationship—you’re merely trying to get a date and take pleasure in going out.
Enjoy the moment!
